In 2009, five years after the events of Resident Evil 4, Chris Redfield, now an agent with the Biosecurity Terrorism Assessment Alliance (BSAA), was sent to Kijuju, Africa. He and his new colleague, Shiva of the Age, are entrusted with stopping Ricardo Irving from selling an organic bioweapon (BOW) on the illicit market. When they arrive, they learn that the inhabitants have been afflicted with Las Plagas (known as “Majini”), and that the BSAA Alpha crew has been slaughtered. Chris and Shiva are saved by the BSAA Delta squad, which includes Shiva’s mentor, Captain Josh Stone.
Chris discovers a photo of his longtime lover, Jill Valentine, among Stone’s files, who is assumed dead following an encounter with Albert Wesker. Chris, Shiva and Delta Tim approaches Irving, but he escapes with the aid of an intriguing man. Irving abandons the paperwork that lead Chris and Sheva to the oilfield wetlands. This is where the deal with Irving would take place, but they realize the documentation are for a transfer.
When Chris and Shiva go to rejoin with squad Delta, they discover that the squad has been slain by BOW; Sheva is unable to locate Stone among the corpses. Chris refuses to report to headquarters because he wants to find out if Valentine is still alive.
They proceed into the marsh, where they meet Stone and, with his assistance, discover Irving’s boat. Irving injects himself with a kind of Las Plagas parasite, transforming into a massive octopus-like monster. Chris and Shiva overcome him, and his final words send him to a nearby cave to learn more. The cave contains flowers used to produce viruses formerly utilized by the Umbrella Corporation, as well as a novel strain known as Uroboros.
Chris and Shiva discovered proof that Tricell, the firm that sponsors BSAA, had purchased an old subterranean facility from Umbrella and pursued the Umbrella probe.
